How to protect the Giogo Alto glacier in Val Senales

In Val Senales there is a glacier which is of fundamental importance for maintaining the balance of the local ecosystem. In recent years, however, the climatic conditions have changed, with less and less snowfall and consequently a certain suffering of the glacier itself. For this reason, the ski area managers put in place a whole series of precautions in order to prevent the glacier from melting at excessive speed. In this way, sheets are used that protect it from the sun in the most critical points, especially where the rocks are located. In fact, the rocks overheat, generating a 'radiator' effect that melts the ice. During some winters it is also necessary to use artificial snow, which was not to be done in the past. This artificial snow is accumulated in the hollows also to protect the glacier itself. The alarm bell to watch out for is the color of the glacier. As long as it is white, everything is fine, because it repels the sun's rays. When it starts to turn gray you have to run for cover.
