Visit the Visitation.

Where: carmignano
(Carmignano, Artimino.)
Genre: culture   nature

Ancient agricultural center, it owes its name to Carminius, tenant of the agricultural estate. The neat and clean countryside that can be admired along the road to the town still confirms that ancient dream. So much so that St. Francis was given a piece of land here in 1211. In remembering it, Bernardo di Quintavalle had a convent and an oratory built there which later became the Provost of Saints Michael and Francis. Here, between 1528 and 1529, Jacopo Carnicci known as Pontormo painted the famous Visitation. Object of study and cultural attraction, the painting summarizes the painter's mannerist philosophy, which in a mysterious atmosphere enhances gestures and expressions, deepening them to whispers. In the hamlet of Artimino you can visit the Medici Villa, known as the Hundred Chimneys, built by Ferdinando I (from 1596 to 1600) and designed by Buontalenti. From the imposing entrance portal you can visit the 17 lunettes by the Flemish Giusto Utens with the frescoes of the Medici estates, aimed at giving a visual perception of their power. Finally, in the Archaeological Museum you can visit the finds of the Necropolis found within the Municipality such as the censer, symbol of the collection.
