Campobasso is the capital of the Molise region; rises at 701 meters above sea level and has 52,000 inhabitants. We begin the visit from the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, from 1829, with a beautiful neoclassical facade and a majolica spire bell tower. Next to it is the Savoy theater. Probably of Lombard origin, it was also the birthplace of the famous singer Fred Bongusto. The ancient village with its narrow streets and its beautiful churches is very particular and fascinating. Here we find the church of San Leonardo, with an interesting interior, the Mazzarotta palace inside which the Samnite museum is located. In the upper part of Campobasso, as well as enjoying a spectacular view of the underlying valley, there are the Terzano tower and the very suggestive 13th century church of San Bartolomeo; inside is the stationary cross. To visit the church of San Giorgio, patron saint of the city, located at the entrance of the avenue of remembrances. The symbol of the city is the Monforte castle, a Lombard, rebuilt in the 15th century. It stands high, on a hill, isolated, severe, with four cut-off circular corner towers and a major tower inside the body. The inner courtyard and the shrine of the fallen of the two world wars are very beautiful. The Sanctuary of Santa Maria del Monte is valuable, with a remarkable interior. The town hall is located inside the Palazzo San Giorgio. Finally, the eighteenth-century municipal villa is worth a visit.
