(Canino)
Genre: culture

Canino is a small town of about 5300 inhabitants in the province of Viterbo. The city has Etruscan origins and is famous for being the birthplace of Pope Paul III. Its territory includes a part of the Environmental Archaeological Park of Vulci where the homonymous Castle, seat of the National Museum, stands. Among the most important historical buildings we also find the Tower of Pope Paul III and the Residence of Luciano Bonaparte. The Dodecagonal Fountain located in the main square is picturesque. Canino's product of excellence is certainly the Extra Virgin Olive Oil which received the DOP certification in 1986. The asparagus grown in the surrounding countryside is also appreciated. Among the most evocative places of worship in the country is the Collegiate Church of Santi Apostoli Giovanni e Andrea which has recently been restored. Inside it preserves artistic works of great value such as the Baptistery built by Jacopo della Quercia as well as the tomb of Prince Luciano Bonaparte. There are numerous patronal feasts that are celebrated here such as that of Sant'Andrea, that of the Madonna del Suffragio and that of the Assumption.
