Gaino dell'Umbria is a town that, like many other Italian villages, has an ancient peasant tradition. In Giano this tradition is recalled and revived every year with the Festa della Frasca, to which people always flock. This party has two purposes. The first is to make known and appreciated one of the best products of the area, namely extra virgin olive oil. In fact, the heart of the event includes fires lit on which sliced bread is toasted. The still hot bread is then simply seasoned with a drizzle of oil, which thus enhances its smell and flavor. The other aspect of this celebration is not to let the peasant roots be forgotten. In fact, there is a real historical re-enactment, with oxen on which the yoke is imposed and costumed figures who perform in traditional dances. The Festa della Frasca therefore takes on the whole aspect of a village festival, like those that were once done but which are not displeased even today.
