The nuragic system of Barumini

Where: barumini
(Barumini)
Genre: culture

In Barumini, in the Middle Campidanese, there is one of the most impressive nuragic complexes in central Sardinia. The importance and relevance of this site have also been recognized by UNESCO, which in 1997 declared the nuraghe of Barumini a World Heritage Site. This is because it is a very complex and well preserved structure, strongly exemplifying the Nuragic civilization of which there are many testimonies on the whole island. This civilization proliferated for most of the Bronze Age until the beginning of the Iron Age, then roughly from the middle of the second millennium BC to the first centuries of the first millennium BC. The nuragic peoples are mysterious in many ways, even if many everyday objects that belonged to them have been found. The nuragic system of Barumini presents what is called the central keep, which was to have the purpose of defense and sighting, and other minor stellite constructions connected to each other by a system of walls. Inside was a courtyard which had various functions.
