The inhabitants of Sant'Angelo are devoted to the myth of Father Raffaele and after Sunday services they use to gather around the statue in prayer. This was built on the spot where an innocent villager was about to be hung on the gallows, believed guilty of banditry. The myth recalls the foundation of the town, where the shepherds and peasants of the valley gathered to protect themselves from brigands and attacks by the barbarians, representing their fear. Hence the celebration, where folkloric groups dance in traditional costume and loving the 'Holy Monk' express their faith in the miracle, proof of bliss. The procession begins in the parish church, with the icon of the saint on the altar, enlivened by the light of the new candles, lit for the occasion. Ideal inns are open near the square with typical dishes based on ancient cultivars of legumes and cereals and fresh cheeses. Long bamboo torches, with the flame away from the bearer's shoulders, are a metaphor for the country's domination of fire, fire carried by enemies, destructive fire and uncontrollable siege tool. Many young boys take folkloric instruments from their grandparents' amni which they play with great joy.
