(Sperlonga)
Genre: culture   nature   fun

Ancient village, of mythical Spartan foundation (Amyclae) and historically pre-Roman, is located on a promontory of the Aurunci Mountains, which stretches up to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its coastline is made up of beaches alternating with small cliffs that form inlets and coves that can be reached by boat, sailing towards Gaeta. Due to the Turkish and barbarian incursions, Sperlonga was equipped with defensive and sighting towers, such as the Truglia tower and the Central tower, rebuilt several times. The beautiful coast is joined by a visit to the village, made up of endless ups and downs, arches and galleries between white houses of different sizes, which make the visit pleasant and enjoyable. Among the buildings of major interest, you can visit the Church of Santa Maria dating back to 1100 which has inside the loggias with windows and bright and a wooden statue of San Leone Magno, patron saint of the town. The 15th century Chapel of San Rocco is also worth a visit. Nearby you can visit the Villa of the Roman Emperor Tiberius which preserves a beautiful portico and a natural cave with water features, where statues preserved in the Museum were found.
