Murello, literary park

Where: murello
(Murello)
Genre: culture

Murello is a town in the Cuneo plain which is appreciable for various reasons. It has a very long history: here the first settlements date back to the Neolithic period, the Romans passed here and today there are valuable buildings, such as churches and sanctuaries and a Templar tower-castle. But there is a character of Italian literature that binds his name in an indissoluble way to Murello, and that is Edoardo Calandra. Calandra was a painter and sculptor and came from a family that owned a house in this town. His father Claudio was an engineer and had given life to impressive hydraulic works in the area. His brother Davide was a sculptor. Edoardo instead devoted himself to writing, and he was a very meticulous man. As he wrote his main work, a novel called The Blizzard, he held a topographical map beside him. In this way he could report the toponyms with great precision, to the point that even today it is possible to identify the places where the characters move. The Storm, defined as the Piedmontese Betrothed, makes Murello, where the story is set, a real literary park.
