We are in the Ligurian Riviera di Levante, in one of the villages adjacent to the Cinque Terre, in the province of La Spezia: in Levanto. It is July 25th and as every year the tradition is renewed in this wonderful country, with the religious procession in honor of San Giacomo. The event has been, for years, the strong point of the Levanto summer; a real tradition that sees, especially in the villagers, a deep attachment to their land. Tens of hundreds of people come to Levanto every year to admire the majesty of this event. The party is organized by the Confraternity of San Giacomo and the Borgo and Valle Historical Group; the procession sees not only the brotherhoods of the local area pass by but also from the neighboring areas. So let's admire the parade of crucifixes together with the Relic and the Statue of the Saint. The feast of San Giacomo also coincides with the Feast of the Sea, which sees the patron saint of Levanto, Sant'Andrea. The choice to celebrate San Giacomo derives from the fact that he is the protector of seafarers and sailors and Levanto is purely a seafaring city. The parade continues, then, in the streets of the boron reaching the old port where, escorted by boats, the Relic arrives in the middle of the sea for the blessing and the deposition of the crown. Then the traditional fireworks display and see you next year.
