The city of Tropea is recognized as one of the most fascinating places in Calabria; located on a tuff promontory and overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, it is a tourist destination that has a lot to offer its visitors. Tropea can boast of a wonderful historic center of medieval origin, with its tangled alleys that branch off around the main route, the beautiful Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Here we can find the main historical buildings: one of the most famous is the Antico Sedile (or Seat of the Nobles), where the nobles of lineage who resided in the city gathered. Other places worth visiting are the Palazzo Di Tocco, Palazzo Naso and Palazzo Braghò. The main religious building in the city is the co-cathedral of Maria Santissima di Romania, a 12th century structure. Inside, in addition to the architectural beauties, you can admire the unexploded bombs of the Second World War which, according to local tradition, were made harmless at the behest of the Madonna. The local beach has been awarded a Blue Flag and is considered to be among the most beautiful in the world. The glance is made fascinating by the Rupe di Tropea; the beach in fact is dominated by the vertical walls of the rock, on which the city itself stands. Tropea is famous all over the world for its native onion, the red onion of Tropea IGP. It is therefore not surprising that local recipes incorporate this extraordinary ingredient into their preparations. We recommend tasting the Tropean salad, the onion omelette and the Tropean fileja.
