Goni and its archaeological sites

(Goni)
Genre: culture

Goni is a small town of 500 inhabitants in the province of Cagliari. It rises in a very beautiful territory from the landscape point of view, with the presence of the Flumendosa River, of Lake Mulargia and of mountainous reliefs covered by holm oaks and oaks. The name Goni comes from a pre-Latin word and means mountain or hill. The town is divided into six districts and the main road is the Via Roma from which the secondary roads branch off. In the village there are several soccer and five-a-side football fields, a swimming pool and a municipal gym. Religious building of great interest is the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore dedicated to the patron saint of the city. In honor of the saint every 25th July a festival is celebrated in which the solemn processions are accompanied by dances, music and fireworks. There are numerous archaeological sites dating back to the Nuragic and Pre-Nuragic epochs in the surrounding area that have made Goni take the name of Italian Stonehenge. Among these we find Pranu Muttedu, Domus Suas and Doumus de Janas. Also suggestive is the Nuraghe Goni made up of limestone blocks that rises on a plateau. Finally, among the typical products of the town we find meats, salami and cheeses.
