Among the mountain pastures, the lake of Monastero.

Where: cantoira
(Valle di Lanzo)
Genre: nature   useful information

Route 332-3R is traced along the gravel road and trekking is recommended in spring or autumn, when it is less traveled and there is no summer mist. In winter it is well practicable with crampons or skis as the slope is gentle and the snow settles down solid. The starting point is Colle della Croce, near Chiaves, at 1125 m. The road enters a birch forest, passes two stony ground and reaches the first old mountain pasture. Climbing more steeply, you go along a grassy slope with the malghe of San Giacomo di Moia, up to the top of Colle San Giacomo. The path is sloping and runs along the ridge touching the Passo della Forchetta at 1666 m. Here we read a commemorative plaque of two young partisans who sacrificed themselves to the Nazi-fascists, allowing their comrades to escape. In the valleys below, you can still see the Talco quarries, abandoned for decades. Finally we conquer the Alpe di Monastero and the lake at 1992 m. The reservoir silently inhabits the basin and mirrors the clouds and masses of Punta Gias Vej.
