It's paradise!

On the roads that lead to the lake from Montereale or Capitignano, there is no one even in summer. Road beaten by motorcyclists whizzing along the wide curves, allowing you to admire the view of the lake and the surrounding mountains, such as Monte Cardito and Monte di Mezzo. At the kiosk, on the other hand, everyone is there, where relaxing your legs, sitting on the terrace overlooking the water, sipping a cold beer and excellent stuffed dunk. The lake, located at 1300 m, is artificial and until the 19th century it was a large pasture where the inhabitants of Campotosto took their sheep and cows to pasture. The discovery of a peat mine began its extraction to produce fuel until 1924. With the dams of Poggio Cancelli, Sella Pedicata and Rio Fucino, in 1935 the water basin was formed, an important resource for the hydroelectric energy of many neighboring municipalities. By the lake, tourists stroll, observing lake birds or can practice surfing and both sport and professional fishing. For Christmas, the accommodation facilities serve a typical lunch with lean dumplings and sweet cod.
