The archaeological treasures of the trabocchi coast

(Costa dei Trabocchi)
Genre: culture

The trabocchi coast is famous for its naturalistic beauties and for the buildings that give it its name. Not many, however, know that along this stretch of the Abruzzo coast there are also many sites of archaeological interest. This was demonstrated by the discovery of a Roman column, which was immersed in a few meters of water on the coast of Vasto. But the findings made in these kilometers are even more numerous, some already known, others still to be discovered. For example, the Roman villa, dating back to the 1st century BC, of Murata Bassa is well known. It is located on the left bank of the river and includes a burial area and aquaculture tanks. During the construction of the cycle path, other pools emerged, which border on the layout of the track. The center of Acquabella deserves a separate chapter. Experts say that this is an archaeological area of great wealth that should be valued as such, but which unfortunately languishes in a state of neglect due to issues related to building speculations.
