A 'stain' of history

Where: macchia-d-isernia
(Macchia d'Isernia)
Genre: events    culture   nature   folklore   useful information

Between the upper and lower Molise, in the middle of the green, a white spot stands out seen from above and from afar, consisting of an agglomeration of buildings and streets. Up close, it is Macchia d'Isernia: an interesting and suggestive village to visit, which reflects the essence of the Matese territory. Within a strategic position in the mountains, since the incursion of the Saracens in the 10th century, a people settled which has been subject to evolutions, crises, emigration; but it remains with a common factor which is that of simplicity, sound principles, the exaltation of agricultural nature and purity. It is a small trait (in fact, a stain) of the past and originality, in a world perhaps abandoned to globalization, progress and modern superficiality. Macchia d'Isernia is a village linked to nature, which remains unchanged even over the years. The Baronial palace and the singular quadrangular tower, the churches of San Michele Arcangelo and Santi Biagio and Nicola represent the modest, but at the same time immense, monumental wealth of the small village. History and traditions are reflected in folklore: anyone is welcome in the wine and grape festivals, in the celebration of San Biagio and San Nicola and in the more recent events of Macchia Blues. In short, it is worth visiting a small 'spot' that can be an indelible trace.
