The four doors, the districts, the Palio del Cerro.

Where: cerreto-guidi
(Cerreto Guidi)
Genre: events    culture   folklore

The urban structure of the locality, where the houses are arranged according to two concentric circles, leads us to imagine the existence of two walls. The first circle was built to protect the Castello dei Conti Guidi, the second, external, would have been built in the 14th century by the Municipality of Florence which had extended its government up to here. The village was accessed through four doors, Porta Fiorentina, Porta al Palagio, Porta Santa Maria del Pozzuolo, Porta Caracosta, accesses that divided the village into the four districts. On the occasion of the Feast of Santa Liberata, the rivals of each district play in the Palio del Cerro, challenging each other in medieval games and jousting. The Medici villa, built on the ruins of the pre-existing castle, is a Renaissance complex with the hunting villa, the farm, the steps of Buontalenti and the service stables during hunting periods. Borgo del vino e olio companies are always open to offer tastings in facilities including receptive structures for your stay.
