Cycling in the Onara marsh.

Where: tombolo
(Palude di Onara di Tombolo.)
Genre: events    culture   nature   fun

The Natural Park represents a great attraction for those who love to observe spontaneous species of rare flora and aquatic birds of the marshy environment. Wooden platforms for bicycles advance along the banks of the canals, between the clean and inhabited waters and at the same time respected in their biological cycle. Public areas are open on holidays, where children play in open and grassy spaces and where equipped barbecues are available. Herbaceous species usually mountainous and rare, inhabit the swamp thanks to contact with cold waters, such as the Hellebores, the marsh orchids, the Calta, the white anemone and above all the Eriophorum (Eriophorum latifolium), a relict species of the pre -glacial, which covers the banks with flowers, from April to June. In a clearing, the small church of Santa Margherita, which was part of the residence of the Ezzellini da Onara, offers us a postcard corner, romantic with the ancient walls, dating back to 1100, and with frescoes from the 15th century. Maps located between the piers will guide you in recognizing birds, such as the Cannaiola, an endangered species, which nests among the marsh reeds, never mown. However, no one will explain the lament of Ezzellino III that a ghost returns to his land, to rejoin his ancestors. You can hear it.
