A rite of Holy Week in Busseto Palizzolo

Where: buseto-palizzolo
(Busseto Palizzolo)
Genre: events    folklore

Busseto Palizzolo is a municipality divided into 7 districts which is located about 10 kilometers from Trapani. This center is known for a sacred event that traditionally takes place on the day of Palm Sunday before Holy Easter. Once the event was simply known as the Via Crucis, today it is called Mysteries with Living Paintings. The representation of the passion and death of Jesus is in fact performed with groups of figures who, however, do not recite, but remain motionless on the floats that are carried in procession. Opening the procession is a wooden crucifix dating back to the end of the sixteenth century. It starts at 17: 00 to go on until midnight, when the crucifix is placed in the mother church of the Madonna del Carmelo. The event has been organized by the Confraternity of the Crucifix since 1981, and although it is younger than many other rites related to Holy Week, it has quickly become very popular not only among the inhabitants of Busseto Palizzolo.
