(Costa Smeralda)
Genre: nature   fun   useful information

The Costa Smeralda denomination indicates a coastal stretch of Gallura in the north-east of Sardinia that has an extension of about 55 kilometers. It starts from the coast of Arzachena up to the Gulf of Cugnana which is instead in Olbia. An area extremely well known and loved by those who prefer a beach holiday. The beaches alternate between sand and rocks and the sea is crystal clear everywhere. The most beautiful and well-known beaches of the coast are: - the Pirata beach located in the Cala Capriccioli area, takes its name from the restaurant that was the first refreshment point on the Costa Smeralda in 1963; - the beach of Capriccioli is the one located on the other side of the pirate beach, characterized by a dense Mediterranean scrub; - the Rena Bianca beach located in the province of Olbia is divided into four areas, one of which is occupied by an establishment and others more spartan; - the Principe beach owes its name to Prince Karim Aga Khan, who fell in love with it but the Sardinians know it as Portu Li Coggi. It is located in a cove and is ideal for families with children; - the Grande Pevero beach is located in a crescent-shaped bay; - La Celvia beach known for its coarse-grained sand made up of pink quartz powders and shell fragments; - Liscia Ruja beach is the largest on the coast, it is 500 meters wide; - the beach of Romazzino is one of the least known but no less beautiful on the coast. It takes its name from the rosemary plant typical of the area which in dialect is called 'rumassinu'.
