The center of artistic unity of Castiglione Olona.

The village was born according to the ambitious project of Branda Castiglione who was its bishop in the 1400s. He was a man of great culture and ambassador of the Church in the Holy Roman Empire and especially in Hungary. Following his ideal of converging European arts into the urban core, Tuscan, Venetian, Bohemian, French and Hungarian painters and architects responded to the project with all their talent. Beautiful statues of Lombard and Sienese art decorate the Church of Villa while in the Palazzo Castiglione you can admire the frescoes of the painter, of Umbrian birth but of a Florentine workshop, Masolino da Panicale, aimed at representing religious subjects according to humanist philosophy. Going up the hill we find the Collegiale with a Franco-German architectural structure, where inside you can admire the frescoes by Masolino, the Venetian Schiavo and the Sienese Vecchietta. Nearby we can still admire Masolino's works in the interiors of the Church of San Giovanni or visit the goldsmith's collection that belonged to the idealist Bishop in the Museum.
