Galati Mamertino, inside the Nebrodi park, is a small Messina village dominated first by the Arabs and then by the Normans. They were responsible for the construction first of the castle, in the highest area for defensive purposes, and subsequently of an important church, the church of San Michele, of which only the ruins remain today. Subsequently, the development of the town moved further down where the nucleus of the village stands today, with the main square dedicated to San Giacomo, where Palazzo De Spuches, or the Prince's Palace, stands out, a stately building linked to the Lanza Dynasty and to the family. noble Beloved. On the same square there is also the mother church dedicated to the Madonna Assunta, which shows different architectural styles inside: from the Renaissance colonnade to the sacred furnishings in Baroque style, up to the new twentieth-century presbytery. In the various places of worship of the place some works by Gagini or his school are visible, such as the sculptures of the Annunciation and the Holy Trinity in the mother church. From a naturalistic point of view, the Catafurco Waterfall, which forms along the course of the San Basilio stream right in correspondence with the town of Galati, plays a very important role. The path to get to the waterfall is very suggestive and allows the visitor to get to know the ancient tradition of the Sicilian country.
