Pompeii, known throughout the world for its archaeological excavations, is a Neapolitan city that offers a lot to its visitors. The excavations, together with those of Herculaneum and Oplonti, appear in the list of Italian UNESCO sites. The works brought to light the ancient Roman city with paintings, mosaics, furnishings and buildings (theater, amphitheater, vegetable garden, temples and many others), allowing scholars to reconstruct the lifestyle of the time. Inside the excavations it is possible to observe the casts of some people intent on escaping from the fury of the eruption. Some frescoes that decorated the walls of the buildings are still well preserved. Among the most important places of worship we remember the sanctuary of the Beata Vergine del Rosario, the main church of the city as well as one of the most important and visited Marian sanctuaries in Italy. The sacred building boasts the identity of a pontifical basilica, and is the cathedral of the territorial prelature and seat of the papal delegation. It is a very sumptuous building, both externally and internally, located in a beautiful square with a bell tower next to it which boasts a base of 400 square meters.
