Where: portici
(Ercolano)
Genre: culture   nature   wine and food   useful information

Known worldwide for its archaeological remains that are on the list of Italian UNESCO sites, Herculaneum is a town in the province of Naples that has so much to offer to those who decide to visit it. In addition to the archaeological park and the history of the disastrous eruption of 79, it is right to mention the Vesuvius national park, the many Vesuvian historic villas, and the proximity to the sea. Among the places of worship and of tourist interest we must also mention the Basilica of Santa Maria a Pugliano, located in the square of the same name, is the main and oldest place of worship in the city and in the entire Vesuvian area. It houses several valuable works of art, and also the statue of San Gennaro, co-patron of the city. Also of great value is the Church of Santa Maria del Pilar, born as a noble chapel of the Sorge family palace, and named after the patroness of the Spanish city of Zaragoza, a legacy of the Spanish domination of this territory. Very active from the point of view of volunteering with associations and events that aim to help children in difficulty, pushing them away from crime. Herculaneum also attracts visitors with its typical dishes: first of all the fish used both with pasta and as a main course, the Vesuvius tomatoes and the typical sweets. Among the most famous villas we remember Villa Signorini, today a sumptuous restaurant.
