(Isole Tremiti)
Genre: culture   nature   folklore

We are in Puglia, in the province of Foggia, on the archipelago of the Adriatic Sea we find the Tremiti Islands, the capital is San Nicola, on the homonymous island. Inhabited since ancient times, 4th century BC. C, where they were mainly a place of confinement. Surrounded by a crystal clear sea, unspoiled nature, these five islands are perfect for a relaxing holiday full of magnificent landscapes. To visit, in addition to the beaches, the abbey of Santa Maria a mare, together with the sanctuary, in a dominant position, was built by the Benedictine monks in 1045. Within its walls there are various religious orders, until it was abandoned in 1780. The Renaissance stone facade will leave you speechless, as are the three internal naves with a beautiful mosaic floor, a fifteenth-century polyptych, a wooden cross and a Byzantine-style statue of the Virgin and child. The Badiali Castle, located in the upper part of the island of San Nicola, is a splendid medieval work, with towers and a keep.
