Getting to know Alba

Where: alba
(Alba)
Genre: events    culture   wine and food

Alba is a Piedmontese center in the province of Cuneo; located at 172 meters, it has 31,000 inhabitants. It is the cultural, social and economic epicenter of the Langhe, that is the vast hilly territory limited by the Tanaro and the Bormida; land of extraordinary colors, smells and flavors. We remember the hazelnut groves, the vineyards that originate the extraordinary wines of the area: barolo, barbera, dolcetto, barbaresco and his majesty the white truffle. A very lively city culturally, it is full of manifestations and events: the truffle fair, which attracts tourists from all over the world; the donkey palio; medieval reenactments. Of Roman origins, it is still possible today to see traces of the Capitoline domination that gave Alba an urban connotation typical of ancient Rome: walls, road axes, fortifications, forum. Subsequent dominations erased the Roman cultural and architectural imprint, and Alba experienced the alternation of periods of expansion and periods of decline. Alba is known as the city of a hundred towers, a legacy of the flourishing medieval period and is known everywhere for being the birthplace of the writer Beppe Fenoglio, to whom a study center and museum is named, right inside his birthplace. To visit the cathedral of San Lorenzo and the arcades scattered throughout the historic center.
