Rufina is a famous wine production center that rises along the left bank of the Sieve river. The inhabited center is crossed by the state road 67 that connects Florence to Romagna, an ancient road that has allowed the creation of important commercial centers along its axis. The local economy is based on trade and agriculture. The prized Chianti Rufina wine is extracted from the vineyards; thanks to this precious wine, the Albizi, Francobaldi and Liccioli families brought Pomino wines around the world, thanks to the international exhibitions of the mid and late nineteenth century. The most important event in Rufina is the 'Bacchus Artisan' in which wine and the flavors of gastronomy are celebrated. During the event it is possible to attend the parade of the sea bacchus, or the traditional transport of wine. There will be a parade of a procession that recreates the lordship of Florence. From time immemorial, the city attracted the attention of nobles and landowners who built farms and villas.
