Trani, together with Andria and Barletta is a provincial capital of Puglia. A large center with a seafaring vocation boasts a commercial port and a tourist port, fishing is obviously the economic driving force of the territory together with the renowned local olive oil, obtained from the centuries-old olive groves of the area by means of historic oil mills. Considered the pearl of the Mediterranean, Trani presents a maze of alleys with buildings in typical stone of Trani, famous all over the world, object of exports and appreciated for its particular brightness. The Romanesque cathedral certainly represents the symbol par excellence of Trani, unique of its kind since it overlooks the sea, has the characteristic of practically enclosing three churches in one. Built in 1099, it incorporates an early Christian basilica of the fifth century, of which a very bright crypt remains, and a subsequent church on the ground floor. On these two previous constructions the last basilica is grafted, chronologically speaking, placed above.
