Prato is a city in Tuscany famous above all for textile manufacturing, a sector in which the municipality has been at the forefront for many centuries, since the Middle Ages. This is the reason why today in Prato you can visit the Textile Museum, which is located together with the Municipal Library housed inside the former Campolmi factory. The museum itinerary unfolds in different sections: the first exhibits in rotation one of the collections of the Museum, which obviously are composed of ancient fabrics, for example from the Renaissance period. The second section, on the other hand, is exhibited along a corridor in which the various fibers of the fabric and the various processing techniques are shown. The last section is located on the upper floor and is a sort of Prato history, showing how fabric manufacturing has evolved over time from manual to industrial techniques. Here you can also watch a film on textile art. The Museum can also host temporary exhibitions, for example of clothes used in film productions.
