From San Martino to the Belvedere.

The valley is one of the most picturesque in Valtellina. Park the car in San Martino, proceed on a wide mule track that enters the narrow valley between the smooth and sloping walls of the mountains. From an altitude of 912 m we will go up, crossing the larch and fir woods, up to Casera Pioda at about 1500 m. Along the valley you run along a small lake and you can admire rushing waterfalls enriching the river. The path begins to climb the stepped ridge, which at times coincides with the stream bed, where you need to be a little careful. The view immediately opens onto the Piada Mountains, Sissone and the top of Castello. After a few rocky hairpin bends, a panoramic point is conquered, the belvedere. With the help of the explanatory panel, you can visually retrace the path followed and the stretches along the river that now glistens in the sunlight. From here you decide to go up another 15 minutes to reach Casera Pioda, an ancient hut surrounded by pastures, still frequented by cows, where you can taste typical dishes, such as polenta taragna, on the panoramic terrace.
